Liverpool Plains Shire Council (LPSC) is pleased to partner with the Quirindi High School to see the Liverpool Plains Primary Public School students being able to access the Quirindi and Werris Creek Pools, and Year 11 and 12 students being able access to the Plains Fitness Centre.

The agreement which has now been finalised means that these students will be able to access the facilities at no cost.  Earlier in the year Council agreed to provide a 50% reduction in fees to all Liverpool Plains students to access the Quirindi and Werris Creek Pools, and Year 11 and 12 students to access to the Plains Fitness Centre.  Quirindi High School have been able to subsidise the remainder of the cost for their students.

Mayor Doug Hawkins OAM said it is wonderful to work in collaboration with both the primary and secondary public schools to successfully provide an outcome for local students to participate in activities that can benefit their health and wellbeing, and also a place where they can interact socially.

Principal of Quirindi High, Mr Ian Worley said that the partnership with LPSC is a great opportunity for students in our Local Government Area to gain access to local services. Being a part of this initiative means that all students in our local government schools are able to regularly make use of facilities within our community. Promoting physical activity impacts positively on the overall wellbeing of young people. This is an opportunity for council to have a positive impact on the wellbeing of those young people attending out local government schools. It is very much appreciated by the students in our area.

Cr Hawkins said the agreement provides students in Year 11 and 12 from Quirindi High School free access to the Plains Fitness Centre.  This has been made possible due to the agreed partnership between Council and the High School to subsidise student access fees.  Students will just need to present a current student identification for the 2022 calendar year.

“Council recognises the importance of our young people and the contribution they make to our community and we are excited to be able provide this opportunity to our local students,” he concluded.
