Liverpool Plains Shire Council is calling on residents to put forward their local legends, with nominations now open for the 2026 Australia Day Awards.
Mayor Ken Cudmore said the awards celebrate the achievements and contributions of individuals and community organisations across the Liverpool Plains Shire.
“Nominating someone for an Australia Day Award is a meaningful way to say thank you to those who go above and beyond in giving back to the Liverpool Plains Shire,” Cr Cudmore said.
“We all know someone who is worthy of recognition – be they a friend, colleague, family member, or neighbour – and these awards provide us with the opportunity to celebrate everyday people who make an extraordinary impact,” he said.
“From tireless volunteers and community leaders to young people making a big difference, these awards honour those who give their time, energy and heart to the Liverpool Plains.”
Award categories include:
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Local Legend Award
- Sportsperson of the Year
- Junior Sportsperson of the Year
- Marie Maunder Community Service Award
- Emergency Services Community Award
Nominations close Monday, 15 December 2025, with winners announced at the shire’s Australia Day celebrations on 26 January 2026.
Nomination forms and further information are available online via Council’s website at www.liverpoolplains.nsw.gov.au, with printed nomination forms available from Council’s Customer Service Centre at 60 Station Street and the Quirindi and Werris Creek public libraries.
