National Volunteer Week 16 – 22 May 2022

National Volunteer Week (NVW) is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering and will be held from 16 – 22 May 2022. It is a chance for all of us to celebrate and recognise the vital work of volunteers in our community and to say thank you.

The 2022 theme acknowledges that volunteering brings people together, builds communities and creates a better society for everyone.  We are Better Together.

Council’s Mayor, Cr Doug Hawkins said never has it been more important that we take the time to recognise those in our community who continue to give their time for the wellbeing of our community members.

“Our volunteers provide a range of support from the parents that umpire, coach or organise sporting events, to our community members that are passionate about keeping our history alive for future generations, to those that assist the vulnerable members of the community.”

“During the last two years of the pandemic our volunteers have continued to support community groups and individuals through adverse conditions. Your dedication to providing an important service and helping to improve the lives of our community members does not go unnoticed and for this we thank you.” Cr Hawkins said.

“Volunteering is known to have health and wellbeing benefits. It helps people feel part of the community, can relieve stress and gives people purpose. Together, through volunteering, we continue to change our community for the better,” he said.
