Council’s Wellbeing Initiative for Volunteers
Published on 26 May 2022
Council has commenced a wellbeing initiative for Volunteers and staff. Kate Arndell from the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program held a Volunteer Wellbeing workshop in which a number of key strategies regarding mental health were discussed.
Volunteers contribute 596.2 million hours throughout the country both informally and formally and providing support for their health and wellbeing is crucial. The key aspects delivered in the workshop included the facts and signs around mental health, how to approach such issues, how to source assistance and self-care and prevention. Discussion concerning the physical and emotional responses to the demands placed on volunteers and how to increase capacity for stress also featured in the workshop.
Volunteerism contributes considerably towards the ongoing needs of the community. On behalf of Council, the Human Resources team as part of National Volunteer Week presented certificates to Council’s volunteers in recognition of their contribution and dedication.
Organisations and groups who are interested in leveraging from such an opportunity are encouraged to contact Kate Arndell at Kate.Arndell@hnehealth.nsw.gov.au
