Joan Carpenter Music Scholarships
The Scholarships provide the opportunity for young musicians in the Liverpool Plains Shire to perform in front of a live audience and win financial support for the development of their future music skills.
The Scholarships commenced in 1992 by Quirindi Rotary club, as a way of recognising the outstanding musical contribution made to the district by the late Joan Carpenter, as well as opening a new forum for youth development in the district. In 1999 the competition was converted to an open concert creating an opportunity for the youth of the district to display their talents in front of an audience, and in turn develop their confidence for future presentations.
This concept has proven to be very successful with some winners going on to further their careers in music and even become teachers and performers themselves.
The musical afternoon is organized annually by the Quirindi Rotary Club and is supported by the local Farming for Kids group.
Any students wishing to be part of the event are asked to phone 67462064 for an application form. Application Forms are also available on Quirindi Rotary Club’s Facebook site, at https://www.facebook.com/QuirindiRotary.
The 2026 Joan Carpenter Award will again include separate categories for musical instruments, vocalists, original composition and school musical groups. There will be separate sections for voice and musical instruments but still retain the three age sections.
The judges will select three prize winners from each group, then select the best three performers from the afternoon to play off in a final, from which the judges will select this years Joan Carpenter Awardee.
