Community input invited on draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan

Members of the community are invited to provide feedback on Liverpool Plains Shire Council’s draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2026–2030, now on public exhibition following endorsement at the Ordinary Meeting on Wednesday, 22 April 2026.
Mayor Ken Cudmore said the draft DIAP sets out Council’s commitment and planned actions to improve access, inclusion and participation for people with disability across the Liverpool Plains Shire.
“The draft DIAP has been informed by community consultation through workshops and surveys, and there’s now an opportunity for that consultation process to continue and for members of the public to review and provide feedback on the draft plan before it’s adopted,” Cr Cudmore said.
“This plan reflects a shared goal between Council and out community, which is to create a shire where everyone can access, participate in, and enjoy all the Liverpool Plains has to offer,” he said.
“We want to hear directly from people with disability, their families, carers and service providers to make sure this plan reflects real experiences and local needs. We recognise that not all disabilities are visible however we want to make sure that those living with a disability feel visible.”
The draft DIAP focuses on four key areas:
- Attitudes and behaviours, promoting respect and understanding
- Liveable communities, improving access to buildings, footpaths, parks and services
- Employment, supporting inclusive work and volunteering opportunities
- Systems and processes, ensuring Council’s policies and practices are accessible and responsive
Mayor Cudmore said the draft DIAP provides a clear framework for continuous improvement, accountability, and partnership with the community, particularly people with disability and their families and carers.
“Inclusion isn’t a one-off project; it’s an ongoing commitment,” he said.
“Council has listened carefully during the development of this plan, but the public exhibition period gives us the chance to refine it further and all feedback received will help shape how we prioritise actions and measure our success over the next four years.”
The draft DIAP is available on Council’s website and at Council’s Administration Office, 60 Station Street, Quirindi.
Community members are encouraged to review the document and make a submission during the exhibition period, which concludes Friday, 22 May 2026.
