In 2020 Liverpool Plains Shire Council was successful in obtaining funding to improve public transport passenger amenity under the NSW Country Passenger Transport Infrastructure Grants Scheme (CPTIGS).

In consultation with the local commercial and school bus operators, Council obtained $11,000 in funding for improvement to George Street, Quirindi with the installation of a bus shelter in front of the IGA Supermarket which will allow the commercial service to safely stop, collect and disperse passengers and proceed north.

The Quirindi site selected by the commercial bus operator will include the installation of a new aluminium bus shelter immediately in front of the IGA Supermarket. For this to occur, the existing kerbside parallel parking at this location has been amended to accommodate a 15 metre restricted bus zone between the hours of 7am and 7pm, Monday to Saturday. Parking for vehicles will still be available in this zone outside those hours.

Mayor Doug Hawkins OAM said that this is a great outcome for the community as the bus shelter installation will provide greater comfort for passengers awaiting the bus service and the new bus zone will see improved road safety outcomes for not only the passengers but the bus service and associated traffic in that area.
