Regional Drought Resilience Plan – Have Your Say

Liverpool Plains Shire Council is partnering with neighbouring Gunnedah Shire Council to plan for a more resilient future. Together we are developing a Regional Drought Resilience Plan to help our communities better prepare for, respond to, and recover from drought.   

We need to hear your ideas! Your thoughts and feedback will help inform our planning and future investment in the community. In fact, it will hold the key to developing a Plan which will identify effective and practical ways to boost economic, environmental and social resilience in times of drought.

We want to work closely with a broad cross-section of our community to get every perspective - across industry, business, government, the arts, education, agriculture, community groups, and NGOs.

The Regional Drought Resilience Planning program is jointly funded by the Australian Government and NSW Government under the Future Drought Fund.

What is the Regional Drought Resilience Planning Program? 

The program provides funding to identified Local Government Areas (LGAs) across Australia to develop drought resilience plans to be implemented by councils and their communities. 

Each Plan is tailored to the specific needs of an LGA and includes achievable and effective actions which will help the local community prepare, respond and recover from drought.  

Why is a Regional Drought Resilience Plan being developed?  

The Plan will help Liverpool Shire Council and Gunnedah Shire Council understand current drought resilience across both shires, and identify actions and opportunities to boost economic, environmental and social resilience in the future.  

It will also leverage existing strategic drought plans for these regions while supporting local innovation and increased community knowledge to support better decision-making during times of drought.  

Who do we want to engage with?  

We want to hear from everyone. Both councils are committed to working with a broad cross-section of the community through a comprehensive consultation process which will inform the development of the Plan. 

At the heart of this project is a deep appreciation that the most effective strategies and solutions for boosting drought resilience will stem from close collaboration with our communities.  

What are we trying to achieve with the Regional Drought Resilience Plan?  

This Plan will be a blueprint on ways to enhance drought resilience across both Shires.

It will include several effective and achievable actions which will make a positive difference when times are tough.
